Alice Jewel Melton Dotter passed into her eternal rest Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Okeene Hospital , Okeene, Oklahoma. She had been battling congestive heart failure for nearly a year.

Alice was born August 7, 1926 in Sturgis, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Nay Melton and Harriet Criswell Melton, both from the Republic Missouri area. Her family moved to Alva, Oklahoma in August of 1935. There she attended and graduated from Alva High School. In 1944 Alice began college at Northwestern State College in Alva.
She married Billy Dale Dotter October 20, 1946 at the Baptist Church in Alva To that marriage five children were born.

Mrs. Dotter returned to college after four of her five children were born and graduated in 1955 with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a substitute teacher in Oklahoma City while her husband was in medical school and her children were in grade school. The Dotters moved to Okeene in 1961 when Dr. Dotter set up his medical practice at the Okeene Clinic.

Alice was a devoted and active mother, busy providing lessons in music dance and art for her children and others. She served as a Cub Scout leader in the Boy Scouts of America, a leader in Camp Fire Girls and Girl Scouts, and as President of the Cherokee Strip Girl Scout Council for 10 years.

The Okeene Library was built under her term as President of the Library Board, where she served for forty years. She was an expert saleswoman for World Book Encyclopedia.

As a real estate broker in Alice J. Dotter Reality she provided affordable housing by renovating houses in Okeene for sale or rent.

Alice is survived by her husband Billy Dale Dotter, MD and their five children and their spouses: William Scott Dotter, Ann Evon and H Paul Shurtz, Mark R. and Janet Dotter, Debra Lea and Danny Blakley, and James Eric and Laurie Dotter. Alice and Dale have fourteen grand children and seven great grandchildren. She also has three surviving sisters: Ester (Mrs. Leo Kessinger), Ella (Mrs. Loren Brehmer), and Carol and Don Tally. Her sister Ruth (Mrs. Glenn Cosby) and her parents preceded he in death.
