Spanky was given to us by our neighbor and friend, Kathy. He was an Australian Shepard/Australian Cattle Dog mix. He sort of served as a surrogate puppy to a Rottweiler we had recently rescued. Keya had been abandoned after having a litter of puppies. Once Spanky came into the picture, she was a lot happier and her personality really came out. Keya and Spanky would run around the 94 acres we lived on in San Gregorio.

When we moved to South San Francisco, it wasn't hard for him to adjust to a smaller yard. He still patroled it ever day and pee'd on everything lol!

Late in 2008 he went completely blind. He still got around, just a little slower. It also sounds weird, but he became a more social, happier dog. He was always a bit anti-social with most people and would rather just hang out in the yard, or outside than be with people. But that all changed when he went blind. He was more outgoing and played more.

He started to slow down a bit after the beginning of 2009. Hr was sleeping more often and not eating as much. He really wasn't himself in March of 2009, so tests were run to see what was wrong. He stopped eating all together and got really weak. He was sleeping all day and would barely get up to go outside. He was 14 and lived a full life. We didn't want his last days to be in pain and suffering. Before the test results came back, we as a family, decided that it was his time to go, before he started to suffer.

His mother, Sadie, passed exactly a week before him...

We miss you Spank-a-mans... Mom, Kris, Bob, Rocki & Lola...
