He was the fourth of nine children of George W. ALMS (1787-1859) and Elizabeth Margaret SMELTZER (1786-1878).
1900 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Indiana Co., Saltsburg, District 62, page 9 of 17, 118, 127
Andrew J. Alms, age 76, married 40 years, born Oct 1823 in Pennsylvania, parents born in Pennsyvlania, retired, own home free and clear
Nancy J., wife, age 58, married 40 years, 0 children, born Feb 1842 in Pennsylvania, parents born in Pennsyvlania
-----------------
He is buried in a row containing four in-ground gravestones which seem to be related since the style of the first, third, and fourth gravestone is the same. From left to right the four gravestones are:
1. George WALTERS 1862-1925
2. Leoti WALTERS 1861-1955
3. Andrew J. ALMS 1823-1912
4. Nancy J. ALMS 1842-1930
Gravestones one, three, and four seem to be unusual because they seem to be made of marble. This is the first time I recall seeing in-ground gravestones made of marble. In the photo gravestone #1 you can see the bluish-gray marble mounted in cement.
Note: There are a lot of people with this surname buried in this cememtery, but they spell it "ALMES." They are buried in the same corner of the cemetery as this gravestone.
