Edward B. (Ed) Markillie, 77, 505 1/2 South Crawford Street, retired and a resident of this city for the past 4 years, died Sunday at 4 a.m. at the Main Street Mercy Hospital following a heart attack.
Mr. Markillie was a stockholder in the Bay City Iron Works, Oakland, Calif., and until his retirement he was associated with them as a machinist instructor. He was a member of the University Christian church at Berkeley, Calif.
Mrs. Markillie, the former Effie Mae Bolin, was county superintendent of Bourbon county from 1924 through 1932 and presently owns and operates the Markillie Realty Co. here. They were married Sept. 22, 1943 at Alameda, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Earl's Memorial Home with Rev. Wendell Tuff, pastor of the First Christian church conducting. Burial will be in the Centerville cemetery near Devon. The body is at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Edgar B. Markillie 505 South Crawford who died at the Main Street Mercy Hospital at 4 a.m. Sunday, May 9 were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Earl's Memorial Home with the Rev. Wendell Tull, pastor of the First Christian Church conducting. The service was planned in a plain unassuming manner in keeping with the deceased request.
Mr. Markillie was the last member of his immediate family. His parents, brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
He was born and reared in or near Carthage, Ill. where he spent most of his life until he moved to California in 1911. He was married to Effie Mae Bolin of Fort Scott Sept. 23, 1945 at San Leandro, Calif. He had visited in Fort Scott several times since his marriage and it was in 1950 during his visit here that the was stricken with illness that finally ended his life.
He united with the First Christian Church in Carthage when a young man and later moving to California in 1911. He transferred his membership to the University Christian Church of Berkeley, Calif. where he remained a member until his death.
He was employed by the Johnson Oil Burner Co. of Berkeley for several years and later became associated with the Bay City Iron Works of Oakland where he remained until recent retirement.
Music for the service was furnished by David Freeman, soloist, accompanied by Luci Freeman. Pallbearers were Ellsworth Clayton, Curtis Clayton, Ray Peck, Melvin Blair, Curtis Ray Clayton, Clayton Peck, Edgar Howell and Dewey Peck. Burial was in the family plot in the Centerville Cemetery.
