Rites for Thomas Shell,
Victim of Tuberculosis,
Held Last Wednesday.
Funeral rites for Thomas Shell, 44 years old, well known Bonanza man, who died Nov. 26, at the Paintsville Hospital after a two year illness of tuberculosis, were conducted Wednesday of last week from the Baptist Church at Bonanza.
A native of Abbott Creek, he was a son of the late Jack Shell and of Mrs. Leotta Shell, who survives. Until illness forced his retirement, he was a miner. Mr. Shell was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his widow, Mrs. Emma Fairchild Shell, and the following sons and daughters: Thomas Shell Jr., Bonnie Blue, Va., Mrs. Malta Lee Hicks, of Ohio, Mrs. Lorene Morgan, Pauline, Alta, Johnny, Margaret Sue and Barbara Jean, all of Bonanza. He also leaves four brothers and four sisters: Willie Shell, Troy Oh., Sam Shell, Springfield Oh., Johnny Shell, Ligon, Thurman Shell, Bonanza, Mrs. Haley Hannah, Holly Branch, Ky. Mrs. Emma Hughes, Paintsville, Mrs. Lizzie Hackworth, Bonanza, and Mrs. Eunice Fairchild, Troy, Ohio.
Officiating at the funeral were the Revs. Hargis Conley and H. May. Burial was made in the family cemetery at Bonanza.

"It was a very bad winter that year and the snow was 12 to 15 inches deep. I had to walk to a neighbor's house so they would go to pick up my brother and sister, Alta and Johnny. I was 6 1/2 years old."
