Mrs. Julia A. Harris, widow of James W. Harris, died at one o'clock, Tuesday morning, July 6, 1909, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. T. Dupuy, at Marion, Kentucky. The remains arrived in Brunswick early Thursday morning, and were taken to the home of Mr. George Kennedy. Burial services were held at Elliott Grove cemetery at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning after a short funeral sermon at the graveside by Rev. C. M. Lewellen of the Christian church.
Mrs. Harriss' maiden name was Staples. She was the youngest of eleven children of David and Elizabeth Staples, of Amherst county, Virginia. She was born July 9, 1830, and therefore would have been 79 years old had she lived till Friday of this week. She was married in 1857 to Mr. James W. Harris, who preceded her to the grave some 25 years ago. The same year she was married she came with her husband to Missouri, where her husband died, and where Mrs. Harris lived till seven years ago, when she went to Marion, Kentucky, where she has been making her home with her daughter. Mrs. Harris was the mother of eight children, only two of whom Mrs. S. T. Dupuy, of Marion Kentucky, with whom she lived, and Mrs. Orienne Butler, wife of H. R. Butler of Ada, Ohio. Of her ten brothers and sisters, only one, Mrs. Emma Poole, of Macon City, Mo., survives her.
Mrs. Harris was a consecrated member of the Christian church, and had been identified with that body for 49 years. She was a good, kind hearted Christian woman, and was held in the highest respect and esteem by all who knew her. During the many years she lived here she made many friends, who are deeply pained at her death.
Mr. S. T. Dupuy accompanied the remains from Marion to Brunswick, and was joined in St. Louis by Mr. Butler, who came on to Brunswick for the funeral.
