Susan was born to David Greenwood and Mary Barrick (both from Virginia) in 1854 in Virginia. She had many older siblings including Louisa, Frances, John, William M., Samuel D., George W., Mary J. and one younger sister, H.N.

By 1860 Susan, her father and many of her siblings had moved to Audrain County, Missouri. Her mother was not in the household, and presumably had died in Virginia before 1860.

Susan married Thomas Durrett Wills on March 4, 1873 in Mexico, Missouri. They were the parents of three girls: Maggie May, Ozora (Ora) and Josea (Josie). They divorced sometime before Thomas died in 1890.

Susan was remarried to William Hunt on November 28, 1893 in Lawrence County, Missouri. He died or they were divorced before 1896. There were no children of record.

Susan again was married on April 16, 1896 in Aurora, Missouri to Simon Bolivar Hanna, Sr. He was a 69 year old widower and 27 years her senior. She was his fifth wife. They were married for 17 years before he passed away in 1913, and were reportedly very happy. They had no children together. She was a dressmaker and milliner (hatmaker) by trade.

On July 26, 1914 she was married once more, this time to Jasper Newton Burris in Barry County, Missouri. They divorced sometime before he died in 1930.

Susan died on June 14, 1933 at the home of her daughter, Maggie Wills Blankenship, near Shell Knob, Missouri. She was survived by another daughter, Ora Kelly of Sedaila, Missouri, fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Susan had professed faith in Christ in a meeting held by the Reverends Brattin and Smallwood in Viola, Missouri, and had lived a faithful Christian life. Funeral services were held the day after her death at the Shell Knob Baptist Church. Internment was made in the family burial grounds (Wills Cemetery). Koon Furneral Service had the arrangements.
