Born: CHARLES ALFRED JOHNSON

Son of Marguerite Reese and her first husband, Ogen Hookan Johnson.

They had lived in Minnesota when they married, but were in Leonard Township when Charles was born. His father died in Minnesota when Charles, "Charley", was fourteen and he enlisted in the Army when he turned eighteen.
At that time he used his mother's maiden name of REESE as his surname.

By the 27th of January, 1920 he was a single 22 year old Sargent in the US. Army General Hospital at Buncombe, North Carolina under the name of Charles A. Reese, patient.
He retained the surname Reese throughout his life and his children all took the Reese name.

Discharged on March 31, 1920, as a Radio Sergeant, Surgeon's Certificate of Disability, 50%.
