Cause of death -
Rupture of generalized peritonitis.

THE HERALD - 7 May 1936:
William S. Gowen, age 31, of 557 Farmington Avenue in Kensington, died this morning at
the New Britain General Hospital.
He was injured at work at the Underwood Typewriter Company of New Hartford last Wednesday.
Mr. Gowen, a carpenter, was struck in the abdomen by a block wood that flew from a saw while he was at work. Removed to the hospital, his condition became grave as peritonitis set in.
He had lived New Britain for nine years
before moving to Kensington four years ago.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and a member of the church choir.
