Kirby was born August 3, 1960, to Vernon & Shirley (Herzog) Martin in Oakes, ND. He was raised in Enderlin, ND, graduating from Enderlin High School. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1979 to October 1981.

Kirby loved the outdoors, especially fishing & hunting. He had a great love for cats; he was well-known for sitting in his yard trying to lure a stray cat or kitten in out of the cold. He once managed to get in 3 sibling kittens, one of which we were lucky enough to get from him. At the time of his death he still had the other 2 siblings, as well as 6 other strays. We are currently still trying to re-home most of them.

Kirby left this world all too soon. He died of a heart attack, peacefully on his couch. The date of death was called as February 26th, although the last person who saw him said he was alive February 23rd at 8 p.m. He never showed up for an appointment on February 24th, and no one reported him not seen until the 26th. My husband Tim was his best friend. He normally checks on him every day, but because my husband had the flu for 2 days, then we had a blizzard, he couldn't go anywhere & couldn't reach him by phone.

I could write on & on about Kirby......he was a man of few words, but a man of MANY other things....compassion, love, trust, loyalty, and most of all......friendship. He will be missed beyond anything that words can describe.

Kirby was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Kevin. He is survived by 1 brother & 3 sisters.....and a broken-hearted best friend.
