Donald Turner, 85 of Logansport

Donald Turner, 85 of Logansport, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1919, in Logansport, to Harry and Callie Schell Turner. He married Grace Ryan on April 4, 1942. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1985. He then married Marie A. Fettig Bechtol on Sept. 26, 1987. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Queens Regiment in Hawaii, Pacific Theatre, from 1942-1945.

He worked as a plumber and welder for Bendix Corp, South Bend, and Local 172.

He was a member of the Anoka United Methodist Church and the Grace United Methodist Church of South Bend.

He was a member of the Logansport Airport Board for three years, Golden Gloves, Vice President Plumbers Union of South Bend, Corporate Wing of South Bend, St. Joseph Masonic Lodge 45, Flying Farmers of South Bend, OES of South Bend (Past Worthy Patron), and the VFW of Logansport.

He became a journeyman in 1946. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying, fishing, poems, and playing musical instruments.

Other survivors include sons, Timothy Turner of South Bend, Donald E. (Brenda) Turner of South Bend; a step-daughter, Barbara Flory of Delphi; a step-son, James Bechtol of Logansport; a brother, Thomas Turner of South Bend; a sister, Betty Speth of South Bend; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, at the Fisher Funeral Chapel in Logansport. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral chapel, with Rev. Jim Abbott officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, with full military rites.
