Some of Joy's fondest memories were of when they first settled in Entiat, WA. They worked in the orchards, ate from their garden, hunted deer, and enjoyed life.
Joy's first love was Bud Porter. Their marriage was too short when he was killed in the Korean conflict. She then met and married Billy Wayne Ward, April 18, 1951. They were blessed with three children, Larry, Tamra, and Billie. Her beloved husband, Billy was taken from her in a truck and train accident, December 17, 1955. Approximately five years later, after the death of her sister, Hope McCarrell, Joy's nephew, Floyd came to live with her. He became another son and a brother in the family. She loved all four of her children very much and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were like bright stars in her life. Joy worked hard all her life, sometimes two jobs at a time raising her children. She loved her work in the orchards and warehouses. Also she worked fourteen years for Dusty's In and Out and several years at Lamb Weston in Quincy, WA. She still made time to take care of her ailing parents and other family members when they were in need. Joy finally lost a courageous battle with cancer but never lost her faith in God and family.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Susan) Ward of East Wenatchee, Floyd (Patty) McCarrell of Spokane, Tamra (Scott) Smith of East Wenatchee and Billie Clardy of Malaga; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Saturday April 8, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Wenatchee Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Hussong officiating. Visitation for Joy will be at the funeral home Friday, April 7, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
