Age 86 of Chesaning passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes Martin Chapel in Chesaning with Rev. John Miller officiating. A luncheon will follow at Oakley Community Church. Burial will then take place at 3:00pm at St. John Cemetery in Davison. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2 from 5:00 to 9:00pm, and on Saturday from 10:00am until the service.

Eugene was born on January 30, 1932 to Jack and Madeline (Eddy) Lawson in Columbus, Ohio. He served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952. Gene married the love of his life, Geraldine "Geri" Nutt on June 25, 1955.

Gene worked as an Indian Trails Bus Driver for many years before retiring, and he earned the 1,000,000 Miles Safe Driving Award. During his life, Gene loved being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, working in his shop, and building or fixing just about anything. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially playing music with his sons. He was also a member of Oakley Community Church.

Gene is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine Wilma Lawson; his sons, Craig (Carlene) Lawson of Chesaning, Todd (Wendy) Lawson of Freeland, and Chad (Karen) Lawson of Haslett; his grandchildren, Lauren (Kurt) Klocek, Paige (Adam) Housner, Sam Lawson, and Kate Lawson; his great-granddaughters, Lucy and Macy Klocek; his brother, Allen Lawson of Cedar Springs; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Madeline Lawson; and his sister, Darlene.
