He served in the Air Force from 1953-57, including participation in the Korean conflict, and worked 37 years in Federal Government Service. Among his duties, he was an Aircraft Sheet Metal Worker, an Aircraft Project Officer, and wrote Maintenance Contracts for Aircraft. On August 31, 1990, Willie retired from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Throughout his life he upheld the highest standards for moral and ethical conduct. He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was married to Clara Joan Rutherford for 42 years and devoutly honored his marital vows, exemplified by his care for Clara and her tragic disability for 10 years.
Willie's friends held deep admiration for his heroic care of Clara, and his likeable personality generated innumerable friends.
He is survived by his wife Clara; his son Rick Francis; and one sister, Vernice Lankford.
