There is no longer a marker for this pioneer woman who came to Oregon with her husband John, his mother Sidney and three sons Charles David Story, George (who died on the Oregon Trail) & John William Story. According to family stories George's body was buried and the wagons were driven over the grave so no one would find it. Her mother also accomanied them, she died on the trail at the Sublette Cutoff on the Green River in Wyoming and was buried there.
Jane was married first to Amos Houghum in 1846 and they had one child after which she was widowed, she then married John Story in 1848. After they arrived in Oregon they had 9 more children. Her son by Amos is not listed on the 1850 census in McLean, IL. where she is shown with husband John and son Charles.
