Betty Lou Mabe, age 77, of Route 4 Box 75, Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial hospital in Roanoke, Va.Born on October 19, 1931 in Durhing, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Roy and Sadie K. Mullin Mabe. She was a member of Durhing Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Bramwell High School, Bluefield College, and Bluefield State College and worked in accounting and real estate. She was owner and operator of the Plaza Bookstore in Bluefield. She was a member of the Bluefield Quota Club and McGuffey Readers. Survivors include: Brother, Leroy Mabe of Bluefield, Va.; two aunts, Viola Webb of Bluefield, Vera Keys of Bluefield; uncle, William Mullin of Lanham-Seabrook, Md.; numerous cousins and other relatives.Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Ministers Bart Wynegar and Frank Watkins officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Durhing Church of Christ, Route 3 Box 661, Bluefield, WV 24701. The family may be reached at the Mabe's residence on Min Road, Brushfork, W.Va.Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Mabe family.
As a side note Betty Lou was married for a short time to Thomas Alfred Davidson on 4 Sept 1960. They Divorced in Aug 1961. The Betty Lou Mabe Endowed Scholarship was established by her brother Leroy Mabe at Bluefield College Virginia.
