Was one of Indiana’s Best Known Attorneys
Michael F. Mahoney, age 63 years, died early Monday morning at his home in Logansport after a lingering illness of kidney and heart disease.
The deceased was born in this city, December 11, 1864, the son of Michael and Katherine Mahoney. When Mr. Mahoney was but seven years of age the family moved to Washington township.
Mr. Mahoney received his early education in the Washington township schools and when he had completed his high school studies he entered Indiana University. His university work fitted him for teaching in public schools and after completing his course he returned to Washington township and taught school. Teaching, it developed, was merely a step towards further study for Mr. Mahoney and after a few years he enrolled in Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. This extension of his knowledge fitted him for a career as lawyer and in 1889 he was admitted to the Cass county Bar. Under McGreevy, Mr. Mahoney served two terms and finally in the early 1890s he affiliated with M.D. Fansler to practice law in partnership. This office of Fansler & Mahoney continued about two years. Until January 1, 1927, Mahoney, Fansler & Douglass affiliating and Mr. Mahoney taking in his son, Raymond. Fansler and Douglas went into new offices in City National Bank Building.
