Mrs. Elizabeth Ackerly,wife of G.L. Ackerly,died quite suddenly Friday morning, June 6th at her home in this city. She had been in failing health for several years, and when their fine home in Stanton Twp. was burned last winter: it was to much for her and she declined very rapidly, but recently her condition had not been more alarming than usual. The morning of her death,at six o'clock; she called her daughters and remarked to them that she was choking, and sat down in her favorite chair and expired about seven o'clock apparently without suffering. Her death is attributed to heart trouble.

Mrs. Ackerly was a daughter of the late Daniel Goodrick. She was born November the 15th,1838,in Nicholas county, Kentucky, and when a child moved with her parents to Hamilton county, Indiana, coming to this county with her father in 1854. They located in Stanton township, where in 1859 she married her surviving husband. Mr. Ackerly homesteaded a quarter section of land on the same section where her father resided, which they improved, where they raised their family and spent the happiest days of their lives, and were comfortably situated for their old age when fire destroyed their home. Since then they purchased property in Osawatomic and have resided here.

Mrs. Ackerly had a wide acquaintance in the county and was known to all the early settlers. She was devoted to her husband and children and was much loved and respected. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church the greater part of her life.

She was the mother of nine children,five of whom,with her husband,survive her. John Ackerly living in Stanton township, Mrs. B.S. Bachman of Paola, Mrs. A.F. Carmean of Carterville,Mo.,and Misses Minnie and Tot Ackerly at home in Osawatomie. The funeral services,conducted by Rev. C.F. Creager were held in the Methodist church in this city Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. The remains were brought to Stanton where they were buried.
