Walter E. Pennington, Sr. 97 of La Marque, passed away, Friday March 13, 2009 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

Walter is preceded in death by his wife Vivian Pennington and his parents George Leo Pennington and Mary Elizabeth Enholm Pennington.

Walter was born May 28, 1911 in Mobile, Alabama. He was a veteran of the WW II serving in the United States Navy. Walter was a longtime resident of La Marque and formerly of Galveston. He was a retired supervisor for the United States Post Office in Galveston and was the owner of the Family Inn on 33rd and P in Galveston. He was a former member of the Mainland Elks Lodge 2141 and had received the Elk of the Year Award.

Walter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Walter E. Pennington, Jr. and Lorraine Pennington of Houston, TX.; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Klotzman and Bruce Klotzman of Highland Village, TX. and Beverly Sue Cantini and Clarence Cantini of Galveston, TX. Grandchildren Brian Klotzman and wife Diana of Lewisville, David Klotzman and wife Abbie of Flower Mound, TX. Anne Pennington, Walter Pennington III, both of Houston, Joe Fertitta and wife, Stacey of Houston, Cindy Miller and husband, Jim of Houston, Susan Fitzhugh and husband, Richard of Las Vegas, Carol Anne Podraza of Houston, and John Fertitta of Las Vegas. He also leaves behind sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a kind and generous man, who loved spending time with his family and friends especially at Lake Sam Rayburn

Visitation will be Monday, March 16, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. the James Crowder Funeral Home, 401 Texas Ave (FM 1765) in La Marque, TX., with Father Chacko Puthumayil, officiating. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, with Father Paul Chovanec, officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas.

Walter's pallbearers will be Walter E. Pennington, III, Brian Klotzman, David Klotzman, Joseph Feritta, Jr., John Feritta and Micah Miller.
