COUNCIL GROVE--Ray Walter McInnes, a retired lumberman and hardware dealer, died Wednesday night in the Morris County Hospital. From 1926 until 1962, Mr. McInnes was owner of the Allen Lumber and Supply Company in Allen, Kansas. He was active in community affairs there, and for a number of years served as president and treasurer of the Allen Fair Association. He was on the school board at Allen, Kansas, for 20 years. He returned to Council Grove to live in 1975.

Services in the Kendall Funeral Chapel will be held Saturday at 2 P.M., conducted by the Reverend Gary Schrag. Burial will be at Allen Cemetery at Allen, Kansas, with graveside services by members of the Allen Lodge 335, A. F. & A.M. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 A.M. Friday.

Ray McInnes was born west of Allen, Kansas, May 27, 1891, to Wallace D. and Lizzie Croyle McInnes. He married Esther Shellenberger, June 20, 1923, in Allen, Kansas, and she survives. Other survivors are one brother, Neal McInnes of Independence, Missouri and one sister, Hazel Skaggs of Sacramento, California. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. McInnes started his career in the lumber business in 1920 when he went to work for the J.J. Rhodes Lumber Company in Council Grove, Kansas. He worked as a lumberman in Elsmore, Kansas, and Stark, Kansas, before he bought the Rhodes Lumber Company in Allen, Kansas, in 1926. Mr. McInnes was a 65 year member of the Allen Masonic Lodge and was a 50 year member and Past Patron of the LuLu Chapter 135, Order of the Eastern Star. Since his retirement Mr. McInnes was occupied with his hobbies of traveling and gardening.
