Taylor, Alma "Sis" (Bridges)

CALERA, Okla. - Alma (Sis) Bridges Taylor, 95 of Calera, Okla., passed from this life Wednesday evening, March 11, 2009 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison surrounded by her family. She was born into the union of Tom Henry and Bell Moore Bridges Oct. 2, 1913 at Mead, Okla.
She married Marvin D. Taylor on Nov. 24, 1928, in Wichita Falls. They went to town that morning and got married then returned home, changed clothes and went to the field and picked cotton the rest of the day. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing in January 1989. She was also preceded in death by daughter, Lavell Redfern; brothers, Olvie Bridges, T.H. Bridges Jr., sister Ruby Roberson; grandson Brent Taylor, and son-in-law Paul Redfern.
She was a devoted Christian mother and homemaker, and a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Calera where she attended faithfully until failing health.
Having lost her mother at the young age of 6, Alma became the caregiver and protector of her youngest sister, Ruby. She followed this practice the rest of her life by being a loving mother and protector of her five children. She always said she prayed for God to spare her life to see her children grown.
She is survived by sons Ralph Taylor and wife, Mary of Calera, Okla., Kenneth Taylor and wife, Betty of Denison; daughters Shirley Wright and husband Steve of Colbert, Okla., and Alma Faye Stanford and husband Ronald of Calera, Okla. She is also survived by grandchildren, Mark Taylor, Kirk Taylor, Tracy Parks, Brenda Winchester, Paulette Bartley, Rhonda Redfern, Tina Redfern, Stacy Goatcher, Chad Taylor, Candice Akins, Ronny Stafford Jr. and Sabrina Osmon. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren and three great-greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services for Alma (Sis) Taylor will be 10 a.m. Saturday morning, March 14, 2009 at the New Life Assembly of God in Calera with Brother David Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memory in Colbert. Pallbearers will be Kirk Taylor, Mark Taylor, Chad Taylor, Ronny Stanford, Brian Bartley and Kolby Taylor.
Family night will be from 6 -7 p.m. Friday at the New Life Assembly of God in Calera. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cunningham Funeral Home in Colbert, Okla.
