Funeral services for William P. "Bill" Starks of Owasso, formally Cushing, have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, and will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Cushing, by the side of his beloved wife Aline. Mr. Starks died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in Tulsa, at the age of 88 years.
Bill was born Dec. 14, 1920, in Cushing, the son of Arthur P. Starks and Margaret (Cramer) Starks. He left Cushing at an early age, graduating from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City in 1938. He attended OU and was Outstanding OU Freshman Bandsman 1938-1939. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard on June 3, 1940, and served overseas in Europe until September 1945. He returned to OU in January 1946 where he met Aline. In 1946, he was elected president of the OU band and vice president of Kappa Kappa Psi, an Honor Band Fraternity. He married Aline Aug. 11, 1946, in Oklahoma City. They moved to Cushing in 1952. In 1964, he purchased Starks Electric from his father. He belonged to Cushing Lodge 111 and O.E.S. 157.
He is survived by a son, Michael Starks Sr.; his four grandsons; two granddaughters; several great-grand children; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
