Mustered into the 100th PA Regiment 28 Aug 1861 in Darlington, Beaver, PA
Chantilly,VA.~Battle of Ox Hill Sep. 1st.The Battle of Chantilly
The Roundheads fought another major battle in the area immediately after 2nd Manassas with the Battle of Chantilly on September 1, 1862. Another seven Roundheads died that day but the Confederates were foiled in a flanking march against Pope's retreating forces. The Roundheads, with General Steven's men, rebuffed Lee and Jackson's efforts to deal the Federal Army a severe blow. Although the Northerners abandoned the field early the next day, their efforts had been successful in stopping the enemy move. T.J. Powell, Co.D. 'lower abdomen, hopeful case." The Battle of Ox Hill occurred after Bull Run on their retreat. They ran into the Conferate army during nightime, thunderstorm. The following was about this battle: "Out of five hundred and fifty bayonets that I led that day, not more than two hundred could be found to rally to their colors at dark. Most of the remainder have received injuries.' He died a little over a month later in a military hospital in Washington D.C. Probably from infection.
