Marjorie M. George, 95, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Burlington, Kansas.

Marjorie was born January 27, 1914, on her parents farm near Willis, Kansas. She was the daughter of Irl N. and Audrie B. (May) Compton.

The family moved to a farm east of Eureka, KS, in 1920 and then to a farm northeast of Neosho Falls, KS, in 1931.

She graduated from Neosho Falls High School in 1932 and then attended Iola Junior College for a year.

On July 30, 1933, she married Russell I. George. He preceded her in death on December 21, 1996

They lived on a farm east of Colony, KS for three years before moving to the Neosho Falls area. In 1946 they made their home on a farm three miles south of Neosho Falls where they resided for years. After her husband's death and when her health failed she moved to Burlington, KS to live.

Marjorie was a member of the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star (having served as worthy matron), Social Order of the Beauceant, Happy Circle Club, and the Punkin Kolig Club.

Survivors include two sons, Irl George of Carbondale, KS, and Jim George of Hartford, KS; one daughter, Shirley Tidd of Ft. Collins, CO; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Finley E. "Dutch" Compton and Wayne Compton; and by a sister, Velma Ruggles.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church. The Rev. Trudy Kenyon Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas

Memorials suggested to Neosho Falls United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
