Norman Edward Brownlee was born 7 Feb 1896 in Algiers, Orleans, Louisiana. He served as a Quartermaster with the Transportation Department during WWI. He was a pioneer white jazz musician and had a very popular orchestra in New Orleans in the '20s. He also performed and was friends with many well-known orchestras and musicians of his day. His bass fiddle is in the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Norman was a lifetime member and past president of the American Federation of Musicians Local in Pensacola.

He was Executive Assistant to the base commander at Eglin Field during WWII. After the war, he was employed with Bayview Memorial Cemetery, where he became Office Manager.
