(September 16, 1911 - March 4, 2011)
Mary Lenora Riemer (nee: Eshelman), 99 years of age, and a resident of Winston Salem, North Carolina, passed away March 4, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem.
Mary was born September 16, 1911 in Dormont, Pennsylvania where she was raised. The Amherst and Amherst Township area was her home for most of her life prior to moving to Winston Salem, North Carolina to be with her daughter, Linda.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Mary and her late husband, Otto, owned and operated Riemer Corner Store in South Amherst. A former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, she also served with the Ladies' Aid Society.
Survivors include; her son Glenn W. Riemer (Cindy) of Farmington, Minnesota; her daughters, Loyanne Shinsky and her husband Jerome of West Salem, Ohio, Bonnie Whitney of Elyria, Ohio and Linda Christensen of Winston Salem, North Carolina; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren, many of whom fondly referred to Mary as "GG".
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Otto William Riemer on June 24, 2005; by her daughter, Gayle Riemer in 1954 at the age of five; her grandson, Dale Shinsky; and by her parents Amos and Nora Eshelman (nee: Allison); as well as her brothers Amos and Joseph Eshelman; and her sisters, Marcella Kerner and Emily Dilling. Also preceding her were her son-in-laws, Norman Christensen and Jerry Whitney.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 Noon at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Terrance Adamson, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home; 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
