LANE DAVIS DIES

Prominent Farmer Passed Away Suddenly This Morning.

J. Lane Davis, age 69 years, died suddenly at his home five and one half miles northeast of the city at 7:30 o'clock this morning. The deceased had for some time been suffering froma complication of diseases following liver trouble but his condition was not regarded as serious and he was up and about the house and farm yesterday. This morning he suffered a severe chill and died a few moments later with only his wife and son at his side. Neighbors were summoned and a physician called by he was beyond help before anyone else arrived at home.

The deceased was born October 16, 1847 in Bartholomew county, Indiana, and he was married there October 24, 1872 to Amanda Hughes. To their union four children were born: Mrs. Phrony Harbit, Laura Lee, deceased, Mrs. Charles Hoppenrath of Indianapolis, and Kenneth who farms the home place. Thirty years ago Mr. Davis came to Madison county with his family, settling south of the city. Nineteen years ago he moved to the farm on the range line where death occurred this morning.

The deceased was a member of the United Brethren church and was a splendid christian man and a great worker for the best interests of his community. His death will be one greatly mourned by all who knew him. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the College Corner church. Rev. Mr. Rust in charge and interment will be in the Elwood cemetery.
