PORTSMOUTH - Francis "Frank" Joseph Facenda, 82, died May 23, 2003. He was the husband of Eunice Lillard Facenda. Born in Portsmouth, on Jan. 13, 1921 to the late Joseph and Mary Leone Facenda, he attended parochial schools in Portsmouth, graduating in 1937 from St. Joseph's Academy. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus No. 418 St. Paul's Council, Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus and member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 10766.

Mr. Facenda was retired from National Health Labs. His early career was as a news director/reporter for several local and out-of-state radio stations, including WGH, WNOR, WFOG and WRVA in Richmond. He was news director of WSAP when it was purchased and the station then became WAVY-TV.

Besides his wife, survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Rowena Facenda of Norfolk, Susanne Regina Antonucci and husband, Joseph Anthony (Tony) Antonucci; his loving caregivers of Portsmouth; a granddaughter, Melissa Leigh Antonucci of Virginia Beach; a sister, Rowena A. Facenda of Norfolk; and three nieces and seven nephews.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Joseph S. Slowik. A Christian wake will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, 518 High St., Portsmouth, VA 23704 or to Bon Secour Hospice at Maryview Medical Center, 3636 High St., Portsmouth, VA 23707.
