Marine Lance Cpl. Malone was assigned to 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Caroline as an anti-tank missileman. He died as a result of a non-hostile incident in Saqlaweiyah, Al Anbar province. Patrick moved to the Ocala, Florida area in 1995. He graduated in 2005 from Vanguard High School in Ocala where he was a member of the ROTC for four years. After graduation, he attended the University of South Florida from 2005 to 2006 where he studied sports medicine and psychology but decided he wanted to join the Marines and did so on September 4, 2007. When he joined, his family was not surprised but they were concerned. At the age of 5, Patrick's world of play had him as the tough and gritty Marine who defeated the enemy with his superior firepower, bravery, and intelligence. At the age of 11, his family visited his sister at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina where she was a Marine. Surrounded by the world of the Marines, the deal was sealed. Patrick deployed to Iraq in October and had received both the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Patrick loved any type of music, reading, philosophy, lifting weights, watching movies, watching Anime, meditating and fighting. He had a Brown Belt in Karate and loved old Kung Fu movies. Patrick had an outgoing, kind and straightforward spirit – the kind of guy that people confided in because he was so smart and honest. A Marine to the core describes Patrick – a man who never set out to be a hero but wanted to be a part of something that made a difference and helped people. He succeeded.
