According to information at the Grand Gulf Military Museum and marriage records, Mary Drexler married John McDevite on 1 September 1861 in Claiborne County, MS. She was widowed six weeks after the war began. She married William F. Rogillio 25 May 1868. During the Civil War, she lived with her family in Grand Gulf, MS. Family lore has it that she was a seamstress and usually sat in a particular rocking chair on the front porch to do her sewing. One day Mary Ann decided to go picnicking. That was the day gunboats shelled Grand Gulf. It was reported that a shell went through the back of her rocking chair.
