Frank Nicholas Leibel, the fifth oldest of the eleven children born to Edward C. Leibel and Catherine Bender, was born near Cornlea, Nebraska. The following year the family moved to Elgin, NE, when he was eight months old. He grew up on the family farm there and received his education in a local rural school and in St. Bonaventure Parish School in Raeville, NE.
He was united in marriage to Marie Josephine Henkenius on May 22, 1917, in St. Boniface Church, Elgin, NE.
