Update from Linda Farmer Ames, 1/18/2013

Death of Mrs. J.H. DeVotie – Yesterday about 1 o'clock, Mr. J.G. DeVotie, city editor of the SUN, received a dispatch from his father in Griffin that his mother was dying. He immediately prepared to leave on the Macon train, but before its departure, he received a dispatch announcing the sad tidings of his mother's death. We learn that her remains will be brought to this city for interment, to be laid by the side of two sons that preceded her to the spirit land. Mrs. DeVotie will be recollected by our readers as the esteemed wife of Rev. Dr. J.H. DeVotie, who, for so many years was the loved pastor of the Baptist Church in this city. We know we but express the feelings of the entire community of Columbus, when we tender to the afflicted husband and children their sympathies in common with our own, in this sad hour of their bereavement.
