Mary Eunice Rogers Varner, 76, widow of Samuel C. Varner, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton. Born November 23, 1930, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Etson Calhoun and Annie E. McLeod Rogers. Surviving are three sons, Garris Clifton Cliff Varner of Pinewood, S. Maurice Varner of Ridgeville, and Fred Douglas Varner of Brodhead, Wisconsin; two daughters, Shirley Ann Brading of Sumter and Allene Gettys and her husband Chip of Manning; two sisters, Ann Scarborough and Joyce Hodge of Sumter; five brothers, Lewis Rogers, Delano Rogers, Elvin Rogers, Allen Rogers and Paul Rogers, all of Sumter; seventeen grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Jacob Varner; two daughters, Mary Jean Varner and infant daughter; two brothers, Laverne Rogers and Gilbert Rogers; and great grandson, Matthew Hunter Garris. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 12, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. James Scarborough officiating. Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in Limestone Baptist Church Cemetery in Dorchester County. Pallbearers are William Bill Gettys IV, Derek Mathis, Samuel Maurice Varner II, Allen Jacob Varner, Jr., Garris Clifton Varner II, and Cecil H. Varner. Honorary pallbearers will be Brett Brading, Chad Brading, and Roy Barker, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday evening at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, and at other times at the residence of Chip and Allene Gettys, 510 Woodland Drive, Manning. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Midstate S. C. Chapter, P. O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044, or to a charity of one's choice. STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 304 N.
