George J. Stanford, well-known Flora trucker, was found dead, of a rifle wound in his head, on the back lawn at his home on East Fourth Street this morning. The fatal wound was believed to have been self-inflicted from a .22 rifle, found nearby.

Death was estimated to have occurred about three hours before the body was discovered by a daughter, at 10 a.m. today.

Coroner Charles Briscoe has called an inquest for 7:30 this evening, at the Branson Funeral Home, where the body was removed. Funeral arrangements will be announced later, when plans are completed.

Mr. Stanford is survived by his wife, Sylvia, who left early this week to visit relatives in California; three sons, Earl, of California, and Wilson and Roy of Flora; and five daughters, Mrs. Robert Gill, Mrs. Paul Huey, Mrs. Carl Ferguson and Mrs. Harold Goff, all of the Flora, and Mrs. Charles Lindsey, Victoria, Texas.

He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Leatha Cosner of Flora, and five brothers, Ted, of Toledo, Ohio, Cy, John and Charles of Flora. and one in California.
