He died of Bright's disease which is an older classification for different forms of kidney disease, he was 75.

Well Known Resident Passed Away at Age of 74 Years
J.M. Smith, of 726 North Summit Street, died at the family home last night. The deceased was 74 years of age and Bight's disease was the cause of death. He had been in poor health for some months past and death was not unexpected at this time. The wife of the deceased passed away here last August. Her body was interred in the cemetery at Hackney and Mr. Smith will also be buried there.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence, conducted by Rev. McQuiddy.
Mr. Smith was the father of a large family of children. Five sons and three daughters survive him. The sons all reside in the vicinity of Blackwell, Okla. Mr. Smith had been a resident of this city for a number of years and was well and favorably known here. The friends of the family will regret to learn of his death.
