Denver G. Royer, 90, formerly of Williamsburg RR 2, died Sunday at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg. He was born in Woodbury Township, rural Williamsburg, son of the late Samuel S. and Elizabeth (Stacey) Royer. He married Miriam L. Smith April 19, 1944, in Martinsburg. Surviving are his wife; two nieces: Rachel M. Michelone of Green Lawn and Ruth R. Sowers of Lynchburg, Va.; and three sisters-in-law: Dorcas Royer of rural Williamsburg, Belva Bartges of Martinsburg and Evelyn Kephart of Altoona. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel. Mr. Royer was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. He was a 1939 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg, and he was a lifelong farmer and a representative of Eastern States/Agway for 40 years. Denver was a 50-year member of Portage Lodge No. 220 F&AM, Hollidaysburg, Altoona Consistory and Jaffa Shrine, Altoona. He was a past member of the board of directors at the former Williamsburg office of Farmers and Merchants Bank. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Jon C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, with Pastor Timothy Knauss and Pastor Linda Banaszak officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
