Annetta Hoffmeier Vetter was born March 3, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Viola Boeck Hoffmeier. She died on Monday, February 9, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of eighty-four.
Annetta was born in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ at the Lutheran parsonage in Denison on November 26, 1924, and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Carl W. Schmidt at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on April 10, 1938.
She spent her childhood on a farm southwest of Denison where she attended country school through eighth grade. She then attended Denison High School and graduated in 1941. Following graduation she was employed at Harkers Store in Denison and also assisted her parents on the farm.
Annetta was united in marriage to Harvey Vetter on June 9, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. C.W. Schmidt. The couple made their home on a farm south of Westside, Iowa, where they were blessed with the birth of seven children. The couple farmed until 1984 when they moved to Westside.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed socializing, playing cards, and going out to eat with friends. Baking, cooking and gardening were other favorite activities. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa, since 1946. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary of Westside, Senior Citizens of Arcadia, Westside Cemetery Association, Zion Ladies Aid of Arcadia, Westside Community Club, and Ladies 500 Club.
Annetta was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Viola; her husband Harvey in 1995; two brothers: Melvin and Harry; her parents-in-law, Herman and Bertha; one daughter-in-law, Joyce in 2007; one sister-in-law, Bertha and her husband Harry; two brothers-in-law, Walter and Robert; one step-grandson Brett. She is survived by four daughters: Dorothy; Linda and her husband Cecil; LaRue and her husband Tom; and Luci and her husband Warren; three sons: Glen and his wife Julie; Rick; and Gary and his wife Jane; nineteen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta; three sisters-in-law: Ruth and Clara; Amelia; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. Rev. Benjamin Dose officiated the service and graveside rites at the Westside Cemetery in Westside. Organist Rebecca Dose provided accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Just As I Am, Without One Plea," "In the Garden" and "Blest Be the Tie That Binds." Serving as honorary pallbearers were Reggie McCollough, Christopher Booth, Valerie Vetter, Aleisha Vetter, Kelsey Vetter, Nichole McCollough, Cody McCollough, Rebecca Vetter, Nathan Vetter, Adam Vetter and Angela Tomka. Serving as pallbearers were Philip McCollough, Brendan Fuller, Joseph Vetter, Paul Groth, Courtney Fuller, Jessica Vetter, Justin Vetter and Chad Booth. A prayer service was held at 7 P.M., Wednesday, February 11, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. The family invited everyone to join them at the Westside Community Building for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
