Marie L. Mellott, 89, died Feb. 27, 2009 at the Casa Illuminaria in Del Norte, Colo.
She was born in Rosalie, Neb. on Dec. 28, 1919 to Roy and Erma Mogul Freel. She married Jacob R. Mellott on July 6, 1943 in Monte Vista, Colo, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1992.
Marie was an active member of the Del Norte Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, sewing, embroidery, canning homemaking, and gardening. Babysitting her grandchildren was her favorite thing to do.
Marie is survived by her children Joseph ‘Joe' (Darlene) Mellott of Monte Vista, Randolph ‘Randy' (Wendy) Mellott of Del Norte, and Sarah Arensdorf of Grand Junction, Colo; sister Margaret Taylor of Wyoming, as well as by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by her son William Mellott, her daughter Janice Gayle Mellott, her grandsons Danny and Todd Mellott, and six brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Mon, March 2, 2009, at the Del Norte Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will follow in the Del Norte Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-noon until the time of services at the church. Contributions may be made to the Del Norte Branch of the LDS church and may be made through the mortuary office.
