Elbie was born in Boise City, Oklahoma and had lived in this area for the past 50 years.
He married Frances Mae Holmes Sept. 1, 1962 in Kings County
Elbie worked for the City of Hanford for 35 years and retired as Assistant City Engineer. He was a longtime member of the Hanford City Council and was very talented at hand lettering. He was also an avid golfer and was very likable, having friends from every walk of life.
Elbie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Frances Groves of Hanford; a son, Elbie L. Groves of Fresno; two daughters, Jeannie Erdman and husband Bob of Phoenix, Ariz. and Patricia Collins and husband David of Victorville; a brother, Carol Groves of Lawrence, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter; Francine Sneddon, a granddaughter; Sarah Elizabeth Groves and a great-grandson, Johnny Dale Tulley.
A Graveside Service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 10 in the Lemoore Cemetery.
