DEATH OF MR. PHILLIP LANCE.
-----
Young Man Who Was Injured in April at Y.M.C.A. Gymnasium Passes Away of Paralysis Caused By His Accident.

Mr. Phillip Lance died last night shortly after 8 o'clock at the home of his parents on South Boulevard succeeding an illness that has confined him without interruption to his bed since April. The death of this young man is attended by peculiarly sad circumstances and the news of his passing away will come as a shock to many who became acquainted with him in one capacity or another during his life her.

Mr. Lance was injured April 5 at the gymnasium of the local Young Men's Christian Association while leaping backward out of the hand of a friend, his purposed being to turn a complete somersault. He missed his step and landed on the back of his neck, receiving injuries to the spinal cord from which he never recovered. The accident caused complete paralysis at once from his shoulders down and although he finally became able to articulate, he never recovered to such an extent that he could move any of his limbs. His condition has required unceasing attention ever since the injury.

The deceased was 22 years of age and the youngest of the three children of Mr. and Mrs. P.L. Lance. He was active in the work of the Young Men's Christian Association, an athlete of more than usual acquirements and interested in all clean and commendable sport. His habits were good and by reason of his pleasant companionship, he drew around him a select circle of young friends among whom there will be profound grief at the sad ending of his promising life.

Mr. Lance was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Comforter and the rector, Rev. F.M. Osborne, was with him when death came. The condition of the young man who had been sinking steadily for two days, brought his physicians and his pastor frequently to his chamber.

The funeral will be conducted from the residence tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock. Interment will be at Elmwood.
