MRS. CHRISTINA WITTMER

Christina Witter, nee Hahn, was born on Dec. 26, 1847 near Vermilion. She quietly passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 23, 1928 at the home of her son Albert Wittmer. Her earthly remains were laid to rest Wednesday, Dec. 26 - the eighty-first anniversary of her birth.

The deceased lived her childhood and early youth on a farm near Vermilion. On August 27, 1865 she was united in marriage to John W. Wittmer of Brownhelm, and resided there until the family moved to their home on Douglas-st in Vermilion. This home was broken up by the death of the husband and father on January 14, 1927. For over sixty-one years they had lived together in the mutual devotion of an ideal family life. Seven children were born to them, of whom two sons and one daughter died in early childhood.

She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Vera; three sons, George, Edward and Albert; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Peter Hahn, all of Vermilion; other relatives and a host of friends.

Grandmother Wittmer, as she was affectionately known, lived a life of kind and cheerful devotion to her family, relatives and friends. Her quiet, serene influence was felt by all who knew her. She achieved that high nobility of character which is the crowning achievement of human life.

She was a loyal member of the Methodist Church. Her unwavering faith in God was a source of strength and comfort. She found her greatest satisfaction in helping others. Her kindly influence will long continue in the community of which she was for so many years such a helpful member.

She has entered upon her well-earned rest, reunited with the loved ones who preceded her. Her memory is another link drawing the thoughts of those who remain to the Eternal Shore.
