George York Miller was the son of Earl C. Miller and Dora E. Stabbal.

He married Julia M. Szarka in 1940.

George York Miller died under the care of Hospice on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the age of 98, after a brief illness.

Born in Brownhelm graduating from Brownhelm High School in 1935, he served in the U.S. Navy for four years after which he attended the Cleveland School of Welding. He was a welding supervisor at the American Shipbuilding Company and worked as a welding instructor for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then served on the William P. Palmer freighter on the Great Lakes. In 1976, George retired from the Bendix HVSG in Elyria, where he was a welder for 30 years.

Mr. Miller was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, a life member of the LaGrange Fish and Hunt Club and a former member of the Bendix Golf League. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting and golfing.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Julia "Judy" (nee Szarka) Miller; daughter, Maxine Miller of Amherst; son, Terry (Sheila) Miller of Baytown, Texas; sister, Jane Crook of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dora Miller (nee Stabbel); sister, Ruth Normandeau; brothers, Cliff and Elmer Miller.

Services will be held privately by the family. Private graveside services to be held later at Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
