Merle D. Heidrich, 81, of Elyria, a World War II Army veteran, died Monday at Firelands Medical Center, Sandusky;
Born in Elyria, he was a life- long resident.
He graduated from Elyria High School in 1939 and also attended Ohio University.
Mr. Heidrich was an Army veteran serving in WWII.
He was an accounting clerk at Republic Steel County Elyria, for 35 years until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Elyria, where he served as treasurer for 10 years and also taught Sunday school for 15 years.
Mr. Heidrich was a 60-year member of Elyria American Legion Post No. 12 and a member of Disabled American Veterans.
His hobbies included collecting ink wells.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marjory (nee Williamson); sons John of Grand Forks, N.D., and William of Lorain; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Cleatus of Elyria; and a sister, Catherine Rudy of Peachtree, Ga.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Heidrich; a brother, Darrell, and sisters Aletha Handly and Ruby Joyce.
Friends may call 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. service Friday at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria.
The Rev. Malcolm Peel will officiate.
Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery; Vermilion.
