MERCED, Dec. 31--The body of Dr. Adam L. C. H. Kylberg, 69, Merced County coroner and public administrator for four years, was brought here to-day following his sudden death in San Francisco during a week-end visit. Dr. Kylberg, widely-known physician of this district since 1900 and assemblyman from Merced and Mariposa Counties in 1917-18, will be buried on January 2nd. A native of Sweden, Dr. Kylberg, whose full name was Adam Lorentius Christian Hjalmar Kylberg, served as a seaman for five years and was educated in London and San Francisco. He belonged to the Mariposa Lodge and for ten years was inspector of the Masonic district comprising Mariposa, Merced and Stanislaus counties. For six years he was secretary of the Merced County Medical Association. He was a member of the Merced Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and the Modesto Commandery of Knights Templars. Dr. Kylberg was a past exalted ruler of the Merced Lodge of Elks. The flag on the Elks Building was lowered to half mast in his honor to-day. He was elected county coroner and public administrator in 1930 and re-elected this year and was to have begun his second term January 7th. A successor will be appointed by the board of supervisors. Funeral services will be conducted in the Ivers and Alcorn Chapel Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. W. H. Hawken of St. James Episcopal Cathedral, Fresno, will deliver the eulogy and Rev. W. Dr. H. Kylberg, the assistant instructor in anatomy at the California Medical College, met with a singular mishap last Wednesday, which has resulted in his losing his right eye. In attempting to deposit on a shelf above him a box filled with scraps of nails and screws, the edge caught in an overhanging curtain, and the doctor lost his hold on the object. The box was lidless, and in falling it turned half over, precipitating the contents into his upturned face. The sharp point of one of the screws struck the eye, penetrating the cornea and lens. Inflammation immediately gathered in the injured organ, and in order to prevent further complications it was found necessary to extract it. Dr. Cornwall, assisted by Drs. French and Logan, performed the operation. Dr. Kylberg has his right-eye socket tightly bandaged, and at present cannot use his remaining eye for fear of straining it in its present sympathetic state. His optical adviser is uncertain whether or not Dr. Kylberg will have to discontinue his work at the medical college. [San Francisco Call, Sun., 3 Nov 1895]
