Mr. L. C. Draffin, one of the county's most highly respected citizens passed away last Sunday night about 12 o'clock, at his home seven miles above town. He was about 70 years of age, and had been sick for four or five weeks, yet he had been in feeble health for a year or more. His death was due to old age and stomach trouble. Mr. Draffin was a consistent member of the Pine Level Baptist church. Mr. Draffin leaves behind his wife, four sons and three daughters, besides numerous relatives and friends.

Lon is the son of John Thomas Draffin & Mary Ann Lewis and the husband of Sara Powe, they were married 2 Aug 1888 in Mitchell Co., GA. Leonidas, enlisted in Company I, Georgia 31st Infantry Regiment on 20 Dec 1861. Mustered out on 09 Apr 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA. In 1903 he filed as an Indigent Soldier Pension Applications of Confederate Soldiers and Widows Archive Collection #: GCP-121
L. C. Draffin, who states DOB as 1839 in N.C., has pension applications on line under Decatur and Grady Counties in the GA archives. He says he enlisted in 1861 in Decatur County and served 3 1/2 years with Company I, of the 31st GA regiment. He was honorably discharged at Appomattox, Va in 1865. In 1904, his pension proof was $60.
