Vivian Elizabeth Marks, 92, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Chanute Healthcare Center in Chanute, Kansas.

She was born on April 6, 1912, in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Hillel I. and Esther C. (Warner) Tiegreen.

She graduated from high school in Bristow, Oklahoma. After living in Bristow for six and a half years, she moved back to Chanute where she spent the remainder of her life.

She was united in marriage to Roy Blaine Marks on August 14, 1933 in Chanute, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1986.

She was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Chanute, and an admissions clerk for the Neosho Memorial Hospital in Chanute. She also taught piano lessons for several years.

She was a member of the Grant Avenue Baptist Church since 1933, serving as organist, Sunday School teacher and church clerk for many years. She was very active in the women's organization. She was also a member of the St. Cecilia Music Club, Chanute Christian Women, Chanute Senior Citizens, Tioga HD Unit, Docent, and the Chanute Art Gallery.

She enjoyed continued education at Neosho Community College, and enjoyed quilting, and musical concerts.

She is survived by a son Roy B. Marks and wife Judith of Topeka, KS; two granddaughters, Angela Marie Marks and Shannon Sawyer; a brother Warner Tiegreen, of Chanute, KS; four nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Marks; her parents; and two sisters, Dorothy Tiegreen and Gladys Youngberg.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 2, 2004, at Grant Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Joe Ketcher officiating. Burial will follow at Swede Center Cemetery, northwest of Chanute, Kansas.

Memorials in her name may be made to Grant Avenue Baptist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
