CANASTOTA >> Roosevelt L. Johnson, 86, Getmac Avenue, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, Oct. 22, 2017, in Veterans Administration Medical Center, Syracuse, where he had been a patient for the past eight days.

Born in Syracuse, on Nov. 4, 1930, he was a son of Fred J. and Susie Feisthamel Johnson. A resident of Canastota for nearly 70 years, Roosevelt was educated in Syracuse schools, and then served with the United States Army, during the Korean War, for three years.

He married his first wife, Rosemary Hannan, in Canastota on Dec. 31, 1954. Rosemary died on June 19, 1990. He later married the former Rita Halsey on May 24, 1991.

Prior to his retirement, Roosevelt was employed with the Crouse-Hinds Corporation. He was a member of Believers' Chapel, a member of the Old Timers of the Canastota Fire Department and a former member of the American Legion, Charles Miller Post No. 140.

Surviving besides his wife, Rita, are his two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Walt Wilcox and Doris and Bruce Anderson, all of Canastota; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debbie Hannan of Canastota; his step-daughter, Tina Burns of Canastota; his three step-sons, William Burns and his companion, Shannon Lloyd, Robert and Sarah Burns and Steven Burns, all of Canastota; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Hill, Keitha Cesario, Mildred Stagnitti, Ella Abbott and Anna Wilsey and his brothers, Rodney, Wallace, Stillman and Fred Johnson.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday from the Believers' Chapel, Canastota with Pastor David Allen, officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be made in Whitelaw Cemetery, at the privacy of the family. Contributions, in his memory to replace flowers, may be made to the Compassion Connection Food Pantry, 2657 Seneca Turnpike, Canastota, N.Y. 13032 or the Patients' Activities Fund at ECF, 321 Genesee St., Oneida, N.Y. 13421.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 300 S. Peterboro St., Canastota.
