He was born July 21, 1907, in Rochester, the son of Willis and Maude Copeland. He married Velma Neff in 1934 in Springfield. Mr. Copeland formerly owned and operated Copeland's Phillips 66 in the Springfield downtown area for 50 years. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Cloris Young and Ruth Hopkins, and one grandson.
Mr. Copeland was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, Tyrian Lodge 333 AF&AM, Valley of Springfield AASR and Ansar Shrine Temple.
Surviving are his wife, Velma I.; one son, Ronald L. Copeland of Springfield; one grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Bisch Memorial Home, with the Rev. Robert McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Old Salem Cemetery, Riddle Hill.
