SACRAMENTAN IN HONORED….Major General Jens A. Doe, commander of the 41st Infantry Division in the Southwest Pacific. At a recent ceremony awarded the prized bronze star medal to Private Roy G (C) Lindstrom of Sacramento for conspicuous valor on the field of battle.
A machine gunner, Lindstrom, during a night attack against his emplacement, stayed with his gun in the face of an overwhelming force of Japanese. He was wounded twice by shrapnel and when his automatic weapon failed to function properly he defended his position with rifle fire. Not until the enemy had practically surrounded him did he withdraw to have his wounds treated. Lindstrom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lindstrom of 2519 D Street. He was graduated from the Sutter Junior High School. He entered the army in 1942 and was ordered overseas in the same year. He also has participated in five landings against the Japanese. In addition to the bronze star, Lindstrom wears the Purple Heart and the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with two campaign stars. Prior to his induction the Sacramentan was employed as a construction worker.
