Mrs. LAVELLE DENNIS, 80, of Lawton, Okla., died Friday, March 6, 2009, in Tulsa, Okla. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 9, at the Northwest Church of Christ in Lawton, with Monte Ginnings, minister, officiating.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.
She was born June 30, 1928, in Paducah, Texas, to Travis B.G. "Bud" and Lola Mae Green Garrett. She was the Salutatorian of her senior class at Hollis High School in 1947. She married Charles Loyd Dennis on Jan. 25, 1948, in Hollis. He died on Jan. 27, 2003.
She was on the County Election Board as Chairman and Vice-Chairman, and was a Republican Party Delegate representing Oklahoma for the election of President George H.W. Bush. She was a volunteer at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, and was a member of the Northwest Church of Christ for 50 years, where she went on many mission trips to Mexico. She was very active with home Bible study, was a homemaker and, up to the week of her death, she actively babysat her three year old great-grandson.
She is survived by her three children, Vickie Lynn Lee of Tulsa, Richard Garrett Dennis of Dallas, Texas, Carla Denise Henderson and husband James of Owasso; a sister, Patsy Weeks and her husband Johnny of Wichita Falls, Texas; seven grandchildren, Charissa Prchal and husband Timothy, Melodie Shaffer and husband Jonathan, Levi Dennis, Lauren Dennis, Jonathan Henderson, Emily Henderson, Caleb Henderson, and a great-grandson, Jordan Dennis Wadsworth.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Imadell Carter, and a grandson, Seth Dennis Henderson.
